In 1970, Mario Bellini designed a modular sofa that marked an entire era, the Camaleonda. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the B&B Italia brand reissues it in the most accurate manner but with new skin.
"Camaleonda is a name that I invented in 1970 by mixing two words: the first is the name of an extraordinary animal, the chameleon (chameleon in Italian), which can adapt to the environment and the word" wave". Wave, the curve of the sea and the desert. Both words describe the form and function of this sofa ", explains Mario Bellini.
The designer and the B&B Italia firm decided that this new version should be faithful to the original. The dimensions of the 90x90 cm seat module have been maintained, together with the backrest and armrests, the system of cables and rings that allows them to be hooked and combined as the user wishes, and the pattern that draws its particular quilt.
But innovation comes with materials and the application of sustainable technologies. Now, its structure includes recycled and recyclable materials, certified woods and the padding is protected by a synthetic fabric made entirely of PET.
