The Hortensia armchair by Andrés Reisinger and Júlia Esqué, which began as a 3D design, arrives exclusively at MINIM Barcelona with Moooi.

Coinciding with the Sant Jordi day, MINIM Barcelona opens a very spring showcase together with the Moooi brand. This shop window introduces the Hortensia armchair by Reisinger and Esqué tandem, the Ripples carpet by Reisinger, the Hubble Bubble lamp by Gabriele Chiave and the Mimic Moth Wallcovering.

Available in only 15 showrooms around the world, MINIM Barcelona has the privilege of being the only showroom in Spain where you can see and touch the Hortensia. A romantic, emotional and surprising piece, created by the Reisinger & Esqué tandem, and edited by Moooi, which invites you to experience what it feels like to sit on a flower.

From viral trend to reality

The Hortensia armchair started as a 3D design in 2018 that soon went viral on Instagram. This sudden success caught the interest of the market and the arrival of several orders, but ... the seat did not yet exist. Reisinger and Esqué looked for a way to turn it into a real product, successfully creating a small limited edition.

This important step made a small part of its designers' dream come true, but the next logical step was to make the chair available world-wide. Its creators quickly thought of Moooi as the perfect brand to face this challenge, due to the balance between art and design in all its collections. Together they completed the last stage in the evolution of this armchair: the union of Moooi, Andrés Reisinger and Júlia Esqué made possible what seemed impossible, the production of the Hortensia armchair on a large scale.
 

30,000 petals that hug you

The Hortensia armchair reproduces the beauty of nature in an innovative way. The inspiration for this iconic and voluminous armchair came from the need to recreate the feeling you have when you receive a hug: comfort, calm and relaxation.

After digitally creating the Hortensia armchair, Andrés called to textile designer Júlia Esqué in order to perfect the sensation of softness and relaxation that should be felt when sitting on a blooming flower, wrapped in soft and delicate petals. They managed to create this sensation, dressing the structure of the armchair with an upholstery of more than 30,000 laser-cut petals.

The Petal fabric, designed by Júlia Esqué, is the characteristic fabric of the Hortensia armchair, and it will be available in two colors: Petal Pink and Petal Gray. But the armchair can also be configured in various Moooi fabrics, including the Extinct Animal Fabric collection.

Reisinger, also sings the Ripples carpet collection by Moooi 

The Hortensia armchair is launched together with the Ripples rugs collection that Andrés Reisinger has designed for Moooi Carpets. This collection of two rugs, Ripples in Pink and Ripples in Silver, reflects his signature style. Reisinger translated the delicate simplicity of a drop that falls into water into his own graphic language.
