This year is the centenary year from the birth of the known furniture firm Achille Castiglioni, Zanotta. This firm is recognised for being the protagonist of the Italian design.  To commemorate the centenary year there is an exposition based in the historic assembly sample “A la Castiglioni” (1995-1998). This exposition is visible at Minim Barcelona.

The pieces exposed in our showroom Minim Barcelona are a selection of the most iconic items done by the designer and produced in collaboration with Zanotta.

Allunaggio - design from Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1965)

Allunaggio is an object from other planet. Its name makes reference to one of the mosts important moments in the conquest of space: the moon landing. The object consists in an exterior seat with a light structure. It suits perfectly with the grass, creating as less shadow as possible.

Basello - design from Achille Castiglioni (1987)

The design is a table with two surfaces situated at different heights. The surfaces can be moved by a central axis. Within the different possible combinations, Basello can become a shelf or a stool as a comfortable support.

Joy - design from Achille Castiglioni (1989)

Joy reinvents the space that surrounds it. Joy introduces itself in the environment with its sculptural and functional presence. Five or seven inverted L-shaped rotating shelves revolve around the central axis. It turns out to become into a "game" that offers different shapes and functions: a bookcase, a ladder, a dividing element ...

Mezzadro - design from Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1957)

Mezzadro is a piece that clearly expresses the desire to reinvent existing objects. It maintains the shape but changes the place and the way of using them. In this case, the seat of a tractor becomes an original stool for the home. The seat is fixed and allows a comfortable sitting.

Cumano - design from Achille Castiglioni (1978)

Cumano is an exemplary redesign operation of the classic Parisian bistro table. Castiglioni redesigns two key details: the metal joint that makes the movement easier of the painted structure (without damaging it with the use) and the hole on the surface that adds the possibility of hanging the table to the wall when it is folded.

Sella - design from Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni (1957)

Sella es based on an authentic bicycle seat on a steel tube (the chosen color for the design is pink, inspired by the Giro de Italy's maglia). Sella is supported by a heavy hemispherical base that allows a certain swing. This ironic and fun object was created as a stool to sit on or as a support while talking on the phone. It is important to know that at that time the phones were located on walls.

Primate - design from Achille Castiglioni (1970)

This object is formed by a seat with perfect ergonomics.  It provides a soft support and helps to adopt a correct posture without being tired. Primate is inspired by the oriental tradition.  In addition, allows you to sit and keep your back upright without needing a backrest.

Albero - design by Achille Castiglioni (1983)

It is an ironic flower pot with a subtle presence and a dynamic composition. This complement invites you to have a small "vertical forest" at home. The intention is to accommodate indoor plants. Also this tree-shaped piece has a metal trunk from which branches with small mobile support surfaces are born to locate pots.

Leonardo - design by Achille Castiglioni (1969)

The Leonardo table is a piece inspired by the classic workbenches done by carpenters. Composed of two adjustable height stands, it is a perfect combination of simplicity, functionality and constructive beauty.
