We entered a very special week dedicated to women: #architects and #designers whom we admire for their talent and their ability to be ahead of their time and who, on many occasions, lived in the shadows, without receiving the recognition they deserved.

Today, we dedicate #WomensDay to the French architect, designer and photographer #CharlottePerriand (1903-1999), a key figure in 20th century architecture and design.

At just 24 years old, straight out of the École de l'Union Centrale des Arts Décortaifs, Perriand knocked on the door of Le Corbusier's studio, who responded with "I do apologise but we don't embroider cushions here." Shortly after, at the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1927, Le Corbusier was dazzled by the Bar sous le toit, the interior design work that Perriand had done in his own attic, and did not hesitate to invite her to join his studio's design department of furniture. They began a 10-year collaboration, during which Perriand was in charge of dressing Le Corbusier's spaces adding a touch of humanity to the architect's rationalism.

Perriand was an innovative, restless and nonconformist woman who carried out her work with a very clear objective: to create functional, practical and comfortable spaces and furniture, with the belief that better design helps to create a better society.

Considered one of the promoters of contemporary interior design, she is the author of pieces of furniture that have become great icons of design. Among them, the Nuage shelving unit, the Indochine chair, the Rio table, the Méribel & Berger stools and the entire LC collection created together with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret (the LC4 chaise longue, the LC3 armchair, the LC1 chair ...) , all edited by Cassina.
