"Portales de Luis Gutiérrez Soto" Exhibition at MINIM Madrid
"Portales de Luis Gutiérrez Soto" Exhibition at MINIM Madrid
We take you on a tour of Madrid to see some of the most emblematic entry portals of the work of Luis Gutiérrez Soto, one of the main representatives of rationalism in Spain. With his precise, geometric style, austere but rich in materials, the Madrid architect left his mark on dozens of Madrid buildings in the mid-20th century.
Gutiérrez Soto (1900-1977) projected more than 650 buildings throughout his career, 400 of which are in the capital. Iconic buildings such as the Callao cinema, the Barceló theater, the Unión y el Fénix building or the Chicote Bar, bear his name; Although residential architecture is, without a doubt, where we find more examples of this architect's work who established in Spain some of the formal features that laid the foundations for the new Spanish residential architecture.
His inspiring portals, hidden behind discreet facades, are revealed as dazzling gems of interior design: symmetries, Spanish marbles, art deco handrails, murals, custom carpentry ... Many of them have survived the passage of time and, through a selection of photographs, this exhibition aims to be an emotional journey through the elegance, often contained, of Gutiérrez Soto's entry portals.
The exhibition is part of the Festival OPEN HOUSE MADRID 2021.
