20 years of design in a shop window
20 years of design in a shop window
Last December 2022, we closed the year with the great celebration party of the 20th anniversary of MINIM. For the occasion, the window of our MINIM Barcelona store was conceived as a tribute to two decades of history. We did it through 10 armchairs and 10 emblematic lamps that have accompanied us during this exciting adventure.
Some of the ten armchairs included were the Gilda de Zanotta collection (1954), designed by Carlo Mollino; Piero Lissoni's Frog outdoors for Living Divani (1995); the elegant Capitol Complex easy chair, a tribute by Cassina to Pierre Jeanneret, which the Italian brand has reissued since 2019; the Albert & Ile armchair, a piece rescued from the Minotti archive, whose stylized legs take us back to the retro style of the fifties; the slender Statuette (1995) by Lloyd Schwan for Cappellini, made of fiberglass; and Harry Bertoia's Bird Chair, a milestone in the American's experimentation with the wire structure, from the early 50s. It is edited by Knoll.
There were also four of the great icons of contemporary design: the well-known Egg™ Chair (1958) by Arne Jacobsen, a benchmark of Scandinavian design, manufactured by Fritz Hansen; the mythical -and super soft- Bambola armchair by Mario Bellini for the firm B&B Italia, which marked a before and after in the 70s due to its apparent lack of structure, still valid today; the Chieftain armchair (1949), a masterpiece by Finn Juhl and probably one of the greatest exponents of the mid-century modern movement. And, of course, the Charles & Ray Eames Lounge Chair, designed in 1956 and so comfortable and timeless that Vitra continues to produce it just as it was conceived. It is one of the most famous designs in the history of modern furniture.
To accompany each armchair, the MINIM Barcelona team selected 10 emblematic lamps of contemporary design. They included everything from immortal classics such as Coderch's Disa, edited by Tunds, to new icons, such as Jordi Canudas' Dipping Light for Marset, or fresh proposals by Gofi. The combination of leading international lighting brands (Davide Groppi, Louis Poulsen, Bocci or Nemo Lighting), with other national ones, such as Vibia or Santa&Cole, offered an overview of the best lighting design of the 20th and 21st centuries.
